Impact of COVID-19 on Affordable Housing webinar, presented by Consumer-Action.org Jan 26, 2021 10am PT
Safe, stable and decent housing has always been central to maintaining family health and stability, but even before the coronavirus pandemic hit, more than 20.8 million U.S. households were paying half of their income or more on a place to live. As the economic toll of COVID-19 worsens, what stands between 30 million Americans and an eviction tsunami when moratoriums on evictions expire? What will be the long-term impact of COVID-19 on America’s affordable housing crisis?
Join in Tuesday, Jan. 26, when Consumer Action will host a webinar focusing on the affordable housing crisis. The webinar will feature Bridgett Simmons, an attorney with the National Housing Law Project, and Sam Gilman, co-founder of the COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project.
The webinar will cover:
• What affordable housing is and why it is needed
• What it means to be “rent burdened,” and the need to rethink affordability
• The number of people in America at risk of eviction
• Comprehensive policy proposals to address the crisis
• Rental assistance programs in response to COVID-19
